How to Play Mix & Match
Mix & Match does one thing: it tells the room who is with whom tonight. Pick a group size, tap Match, and everyone is grouped at once. It is the game for the moment where a room has decided to pair off and nobody wants to be the one doing the choosing.
Play Mix & MatchHow it works
- Slide the group size from two up to the whole room
- Tap Match everyone. Every player is placed in a group at once
- Tap Rematch for a different arrangement
Two is pairs. Three makes threes, with any remainder folded into slightly bigger groups rather than leaving anyone out. Set the size to the whole room and you get one group, which is a way of saying everyone is in.
How the groups are chosen
By default the app reads two things about each player. Who they are into, which is the Interested in setting on their profile, and their off-limits list, which names specific people they do not play with. Every group it forms has at least one pair inside it who match on both. Rematch looks for an arrangement you have not already had, so tapping it always changes something.
Anyone with anyone
Who is into whom is a default the app fills in from a gender chip, and for a room that has decided it is open tonight, that default is in the way. Anyone with anyone is a toggle on the Mix & Match screen that draws groups without reading preferences at all. Turn it on and the room is grouped freely.
Off-limits pairs still hold. Two named people who said they do not play together is a different kind of fact from a preference, and no mode unsays it.
When nobody matches
If the app cannot find a compatible pair for every group, it says so rather than pretending. You can include everyone in a group anyway, try a different group size, or go back to Player settings and change who is into whom. Or turn on Anyone with anyone, which is usually what a room in that position actually wants.
Where it fits in the evening
Mix & Match is a door rather than a room. It pairs people up and then stops, so the natural next step is a game that uses the pairs. All at Once is built exactly for that: it matches the room and then gives every pair something to do at the same time. Or match, then play Wild Spin or Temptation within your group.
Mix & Match, answered
How many players does Mix & Match need?
Two or more. With two it is one group, which is not much of a match but still lets a couple use the room games. It comes into its own from four up.
Does it respect who I am into?
Yes, by default. Groups are drawn so that every group has at least one pair who match on Interested in and are not off-limits to each other. Anyone with anyone switches the preference half off; off-limits pairs are always respected.
Can I choose my own group?
Not in the app, and that is deliberate. The point of Mix & Match is that nobody has to pick, so nobody is picked last. If a room wants a specific arrangement they can just play it.
Why does Rematch sometimes do nothing?
When the group size is the whole room there is only one possible arrangement, so Rematch is not offered. Turn the size down and it comes back.
Play it now
Everything above is built into Mix & Match in the app. It handles the order, the intensity and who goes next, so nobody has to keep track.
